In August, the first full month without Covid-19 restrictions, and before the effects of September's fuel crisis are felt, the British economy posted modest growth.
As a result, statisticians now believe July's activity was slightly down from June. Although output has not reached its pre-pandemic peak, it will fall short of the growth predictions made by the Bank of England (BoE).
As data has been revised to show that July's 'pandemic' drove the economy into a slight contraction of 0.1 percent compared to June, 0.4 percent growth in August fell short of some economists' expectations.
